As the holidays approach, members of the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organization have shown their commitment to community service. The PPE organization’s dedication to giving back is a year round commitment but during the holidays, several teams have undertaken initiatives to spread cheer and benefit local organizations and initiatives.

The Pens Elite 2009 Conway team gathered and packed personal care items for 110 residents of the Riverside Care Center. With the holidays coming up, this act of kindness will provide small gifts to residents that will not have any family or friend visitation during this time.

2011/2010 Edwards took part in the Play it Forward Pittsburgh gift drive collection. This initiative is celebrating its 10th year of donating gently used toys to families in need in the Pittsburgh area. Similarly, 2011 Attanucci took part in the Toys for Tots program which donates new toys to less fortunate children in the community each Christmas. The 19U, 16U and 14U Girls teams took part in a toy drive and donated to Moon Police Department, where they provided unwrapped children’s toys and books. 2009 Nelson also took part in a you drive as they shopped for toys to donate to the Northside Commons Missionary toy drive.

The 2006, 15U, 16U and 18U teams participated in the Friendship Bag Project. Together teams were able to provide over 70 small holiday gift packages which will be presented to a child in need in Washington County. The package consisted of a personal item, a small article of clothing, an activity item and an edible item. 10U Tindall provided care packages for sailors stationed on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and also supported the local charity Bethlehem Haven with their care packages.

Thank you to all of our DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite teams and players for your commitment to serving your community!

The 14U, 16U and 19U DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Girls teams will all skate for the first time on home ice this season as USA Hockey celebrates Girls Hockey Weekend! Each of the three teams will be in action at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex this weekend.

The 14U team has had a strong start to the season with four wins in four games and will return to home ice for a three game series this weekend against the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. The first matchup will happen on Saturday, the 17th at 11:40 AM and the second game of Saturday’s double header will be at 5:20 PM. The two teams will return to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Sunday, the 18th for a 9:25 AM for the final game of the series.

The 16U girls also look forward to the comforts of home ice after five road games to start their season. The Pens Elite girls bring an impressive 3-2 record into this weekend’s three game series against Selects Academy. Saturday will feature a double header with games starting at 10:15 AM and 3:55 PM. Selects Academy and the Pens Elite girls will finish their weekend trifecta of games with a 10:50 AM puck drop on Sunday.

The 19U team has been looking forward to this weekend as these games will mark the start of their season. The 19U girls also have a three game in two day weekend schedule against Selects Academy that will begin on Saturday. This weekend is a fantastic time for three of our DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Girls teams to kick off their home schedule because it is USA Hockey’s Girls Hockey Weekend! Players, parents, rinks and associations across the country will be celebrating girls hockey and building awareness while also growing participation. The entire DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organization is proud of the growing list of accomplishments and contributions that teams and individual girls have made to the community and organization. As girls hockey continues to grow in the country and in the region, the Pens Elite organization is proud to be a part of the past successes and future growth of the sport. Having our girls teams in action this weekend will be an exclamation point on an already exciting weekend for girls hockey!

Good luck to all of our girls teams this weekend!

The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township will host the 2022 USA Hockey Girls National Championships in three age levels, it was announced earlier this week by USA Hockey.

Top teams in the Girls 14U, 16U and 19U age groups will compete for national titles from March 31-April 4, 2022, with Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite serving as the host organization.

The complex will also host the USA Hockey Senior Women’s championships the same week.

“We’ve had the honor of hosting the boys national championships in previous years, but we’re excited because this is the first time we’ve been chosen to host the girls tournament,” said Rich Hixon, the Pittsburgh Penguins Senior Vice President of Facilities. “It’s a tribute to the growth of girls hockey in the Pittsburgh region, and to the success we’ve achieved with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite girls programs.

USA Hockey will hold the 2022 boys and girls championships in ten different cities and six states.

USA Hockey has been overseeing national championship events since 1938. As part of USA Hockey Nationals across the country, more than 4,000 players compete for American hockey top honors in various classifications.
