Recent 16U Girls Elite News

The DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organization is proud to welcome Logan Bittle as the new 19U Girls Prep and 16U Girls Head Coach. Bittle has spent the past 10 seasons at Robert Morris University where he served as the assistant coach and associate head coach for the Division I women’s ice hockey team.

During his time at Robert Morris, the team claimed three consecutive College Hockey America (CHA) regular-season titles and two CHA tournament titles. Bittle has been instrumental in helping Robert Morris become a national figure in collegiate women’s hockey as the Colonials spent 13 consecutive weeks ranked in the Top 10 during the 2013-14 season.

Most recently, Bittle and the Colonials captured the 2020-21 CHA title earning them a spot in the NCAA tournament where they will face Northeastern.

Bittle will also be an asset to DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite athletes because of his many relationships with college coaches.

The 14U, 16U and 19U DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite girls teams have their chance to earn a spot in the USA Hockey National Championships at their respective MidAM District Tournaments this weekend. All three teams will head to Strongsville, Ohio (near Cleveland) for the District Tournaments. 

The 14U girls will face off against the Cleveland Barons on Saturday, March 13th at 5:30. Later that day, the 16U girls will battle the Gilmour Gladiators at 7:40 PM. Both teams will have a chance to clinch their spots at Nationals with a victory.

The 19U team will have two matchups starting with a game against Culver Academy on Saturday, March 13th at 2:40 PM. The next day, they will take on the Gilmour Gladiators at 2:20 PM. 

All three teams will hope to clinch their spot at the USA Hockey National Championships in Chester, Pennsylvania from April 29th through May 3rd. Congrats to all three teams on a great season to this point and good luck at the District Tournament!

16U Girls Win PIPS-Burgh Girls Fest Tournament

The 16U Pens Elite Girls team had an eventful weekend as they won the PIPS-Burgh Girls Fest tournament on home ice. 

The Pens Elite squad started the tournament with an impressive 5-0 victory over NAHA Red at Alpha Ice Complex. Later in the day, in a matchup with the Chicago Young Americans, the Pens Elite girls posted another shutout, this time 3-0.

The next day, the girls had a tough matchup against Little Caesars and fell by a 2-1 score in a hard fought game. Later that day, in the quarterfinals, the girls rebounded with a big 6-1 win over the Syracuse Valley Eagles. 

In the semi-finals, the Pens Elite girls impressed with their third shutout of the tournament in a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons. In the championship game, a rematch with Little Caesars awaited and the Pens Elite girls emerged victorious on home ice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex by a 3-2 score to claim the championship.
