Why Sports Matter
The all-female Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 10u Black team set simple goals at the start of the season. They focused on developing hockey skills, learning life lessons, building relationships, having fun, and hopefully winning some games. Our hope as coaches and parents is that the passion our young female athletes have for sports will teach them lessons that will equip them as confident women of our future. For that reason, we offer our team view on why sports matter.

The Pens Elite 10u Black kicked off the regular season with on/off ice testing, an afternoon practice and a team lunch meeting. The outlook for the season is 100% chance of smiles! Coach Ashely Vesci addressed the young female athletes with a simple set of goals....

PPE Girls 10u volunteer to introduce 53 new girls to hockey
The Girls 10u Black team volunteered their time Saturday morning to assist in the March 3 national "Try Hockey for Free" at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The girls assisted with greeting boys and girls age 4-9 who elected to try hockey for the first time. The girls helped collect and distribute head to toe hockey equipment. Each volunteer then led their partners to the locker room to assist with showing them how to dress and lace up skates. They then took to the ice and assisted the Penguins rink coaching and volunteer staff in on ice hockey activities.

Pens Elite Black 10u defeat the #1 seed in the semi finals to advance and finished 2nd overall in the Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Classic
The PPE 10u Black girls team traveled across the US border and ventured into Canadian territory to open their 2017-18 season. Attending the 7th Annual Markham Stouffville Starfest tournament, the team proudly displayed the Penguin uniform and competed as the only US team in the 8 team Atom BB division.
