Winning a tournament is always an accomplishment. Scoring 29 goals in only 5 games while only surrendering 6 to bring home the banner is quite the feat. The 2009 Elites did just that over the weekend at the Burning River Classic in Cleveland.

The 09 Elites opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over the Syracuse Nationals and followed that up with a 12-0 win over the West Seneca Wings later that day. The final preliminary round game against the hometown Cleveland Barons ended in a 2-2 tie as the Pens Elite squad finished the group stage with an undefeated 2-0-1 record and advanced to the semi-finals.

A 4-1 victory over the Columbus Capitals saw the 09 Elites through to the final where a rematch with the Cleveland Barons awaited. Despite playing to a tie in the preliminary round of the tournament, the championship game was much more one-sided as the visitors prevailed 6-1.

The 2009 Elites are in the midst of a great season as their current 32-11-5 record has them ranked 10th in the country. Congrats to the 09’s on a great tournament weekend in Cleveland and good luck with the rest of the season!
