Congratulations to Pittsburgh Penguins Elite defenseman Carter Schade who has committed to play college hockey at Penn State University. Carter is coming off a 2017-18 season in which he registered 29 points (12 goals and 17 assists) in 39 games. Next season, Carter will play on the 16U Pens Elite team.

Penn State’s men’s hockey team is coming off consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. After moving to the NCAA Division I level in 2012, Penn State has seen tremendous growth in their program, winning the Big Ten Tournament in 2017 and making a run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In 2018, the Nittany Lions demonstrated that the future is bright for Penn State hockey as they made a return appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Carter will contribute to the growth of the program at Penn State and will be lucky enough to continue his hockey career in the state of Pennsylvania. The opportunity to play NCAA Division I hockey close to home as well as the success of Pens Elite in developing top talent are testaments to the growth of the sport in the region. Players like Carter Schade are proof of the development of the hockey pyramid in Western Pennsylvania.

Congratulations Carter!
