Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Teams Heading to Nationals

Four different Pittsburgh Penguins Elite teams will be heading to the USA Hockey National Championships after winning their respective divisions at the Mid-American District tournaments. The Pittsburgh area played host to the Districts and four Pens Elite teams, including all three girls’ that participated, used the home ice to their advantage to book their ticket to Nationals.

 

The 14U Girls team was the first Pens Elite team to secure their spot at Nationals as they defeated the Lady Barons 2-1 in the clinching game. The team is ranked 9th nationally after an 18-16-2 season. The 16U Girls continued the trend as they joined the 14U’s in earning the right to head to Nationals by defeating Gilmour 7-1. The 16U girls boast a 30-7-4 record as they are currently the 8th ranked team in the country. The 19U Girls team made it a clean sweep for Pens Elite girls teams over the weekend as they advanced to nationals with a victory over Culver Academy. Ranked 16th nationally, the 19U girls finished the season with a 17-13-6 record. All three Pens Elite girls teams will travel to Marlborough, Massachusetts for the National Championships which will take place from April 5th through 9th.

 

The 2003 Elite Pittsburgh Penguins Elite squad defended their home ice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex by sweeping the Districts tournament and advancing to the National Championship. The final for the 14U division pitted the 2003 Elite against the 2003 Black Pens Elite team and the Elites emerged victorious. The 2003 Elites are ranked 2nd in the country and finished the season with a 43-10-4 record. The team will represent USA Hockey’s Mid-American District at the National Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina from April 5th to 10th.
