The right to head to Nationals will be on the line for Tier 1 youth hockey teams as they face off in Pittsburgh. Teams from USA Hockey’s Mid-American District will vie for the right to go to the National Championships. The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, the official training and practice facility of the Pittsburgh Penguins, will play host to the tournament which will take place from March 8th through March 11th.

Several Pittsburgh Penguins Elite teams will be competing in the tournament. The Pens Elite 18U team, will hope to use home ice to their advantage as they will contend with a list of opponents that includes the Cleveland Barons, Gilmour Academy and the Ohio Blue Jackets.

The Pens Elite 16U team, will also be competing and their opponents include the Tri-State Spartans, Culver Academies and the Ohio Blue Jackets. The Pens Elite 15U team, will face the Pittsburgh Vengeance, the Pittsburgh Esmark Stars and the Ohio Blue Jackets.

The 2003 Pens Elite team will also be competing in Districts. They currently find themselves ranked 2nd in the country; the best of all Pittsburgh Penguins Elite teams! They will bring their 42-10-4 record to Districts and face such opponents as the Sylvania North Stars, the Pittsburgh Esmark Stars and Tri-State Spartans. The 2003 Black Pens Elite squad will also be competing with matchups against the Ohio Blue Jackets, Sylvania North Stars and Tri-State Spartans.

The Finals for each age group will take place on March 11th at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The winners of each Final will head to Charlotte, NC (14U); Plymouth, MI (15U) and Philadelphia (16U, 18U) for the National Championships!
