This past Saturday, young athletes from the 2014 Mueller team traded their sticks and skates for sorting bins and donation boxes, coming together for a meaningful community service event benefitting Rainbow Kitchen Community Services.
The initiative focused on raising awareness and support for homeless families in the Pittsburgh area, with the boys learning firsthand about the challenges these families face and the vital resources Rainbow Kitchen provides—from hot meals and emergency services to job readiness and housing support.
After an engaging educational session, the team rolled up their sleeves to sort, count, and box donations collected in the weeks leading up to the event. In total, the group prepared 111 jackets and 169 winter accessories, including hats, gloves, and scarves—each item destined to help keep local families warm through the coming season.
The event not only reinforced the importance of giving back but also highlighted the power of youth sports programs to instill values of empathy, leadership, and community responsibility.
Rainbow Kitchen staff expressed deep gratitude for the support, noting that contributions like these help sustain their mission and bring comfort to those who need it most.
