Alum Evan Konyen currently completed his second year in the OHL playing for the Sudbury Wolves. During his time within the Pens Elite program he was a key piece to his teams offense. Most recently, Evan was listed on the NHL Central Scouting Final Draft Rankings at number 85.
We caught up to chat about his time in the Pens Elite program and how he has adjusted to the OHL.
My favorite Pens Elite memory was making it to the Semi Finals in my U14 year at USA Hockey Nationals.
My favorite teammate on my current team is David Goyette or Kocha Delic we are a line and it’s cool to be friends with those guys after playing against them in and being good rivals with them while I was on Pens Elite.
It wasn’t that big of a jump for me because Pens Elite runs their Organization like a junior/professional organization so it makes the adjustment to the next level easier for its players.
I usually have school form 8:30 to 1:00 and then head over to the rink. we have practice at 2:30- 3:30 and Skills before the skate for 25-30 minutes. After our practices we have a team stretch or workout. After that I go home to my billet house have dinner and do homework or whatever else I need to get done.
My time with Pens elite was extremely important to help me get to where I am and help me succeed at the next level.
Salmon and rice before games.
My favorite Rink to play in is our Home arena in Sudbury we have a great fan base and the arena get pretty loud and electric on Friday Night home games.
My least favorite rink to play in is the Peterborough Petes arena. The corners are square and the rink isn’t regulation size so it makes it an awkward arena to play in.
Learn what separates you from someone else and become very good at that one thing. Don’t try to be a player your not.
