Alum Aidan Campbell currently plays for the Erie Otters in OHL. He recently finished his first year with the Otters where he appeared in 26 games. During his last season with Pens Elite he was a key part of our 2019 16U National Championship team.

We caught up to chat about his time in the Pens Elite program and how he has adjusted to playing at the junior level.

HOW WAS THE ADJUSTMENT FROM YOUTH HOCKEY TO OHL?

The adjustment was difficult but thanks to the on and off ice workouts, the switch was slow but simple.

HOW MUCH DID YOUR TIME WITH PENS ELITE HELP GET YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

My time with Pens Elite gave me so much over the past 8 years. Pens Elite gave me friendships that I will cherish forever and it is also where I started to really love the game of hockey. Not only did Pens Elite teach me the good but it also put me through some adversity and taught me that you are the only one who will get you to your dreams. There will be people along the way who will try to stop you from reaching that ultimate goal and it is up to you whether they stop you or you keep going.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY DURING YOUR TIME AT PENS ELITE?

My favorite memory had to be winning the 2019 16U National Championship.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ANY CURRENT PENS ELITE PLAYERS ON HOW TO REACH THEIR GOALS?

Is there was any advice I would want to give to you it would be to trust the process and know that you will face adversity at some point in your career. You just have to know that you have to push through even when no one wants you too.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE TEAMMATE?

Elias Cohen because he pushes me to be a better hockey player and he is my billet brother.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE FOR YOU?

I would wake up for school at 6:45 and finish the school day around 12:45. From there my teammates who also attended high school went to the rink for a 2 o’clock practice. The practice would usually end around 3:15-3:30 where we would then go to workout and I would usually leave the rink around 6 to get home to my billet family where I just repeat.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRE-GAME MEAL?

Chicken parm

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RINK TO PLAY IN AND WHY?

London because they usually seat 9,000 people per game and it feels close to an NHL game.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE RINK TO PLAY IN AND WHY?

Owen sound because they don’t receive as many fans and I’m not a fan of the rink.
