Alum Teddy Sawyer currently plays for the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League.

We caught up to chat about his time in the Pens Elite program and how he has adjusted to playing in the OHL.

How much did your time with Pens Elite help get you to where you are today?

Pens Elite is an amazing program which helped develop and prepare me for my experience in the OHL.  The coaching staff, the facilities, and the workout routines helped to make me the player who I am today both on and off the ice.

Do you have any suggestions for any current Pens Elite players on how to reach their goals?

If you play in the Pens Elite program, participating in Excel hockey academy is very helpful. Grind every day to your fullest, both on and off the ice, trust your coaches, and make every day count.

How was the adjustment from 15U to the OHL?

The adjustment is a huge step.  I was playing against guys who were as much as five years older than me, and some who are NHL draft picks. Every team I played this season had high end NHL drafted players.  The size and strength of the opposing players, and the speed of the game were unbelievable changes.

Who was your favorite teammate in Ottawa and why?

My favorite teammate was Thomas Johnston.  We were both first year players, and we were a great support for each other on and off the ice.

What is a typical day like for you?

I usually wake up at 5:50am and leave the house at 6:30am. We have pre-ice meetings starting at 7:30am followed by an 8:40am-10:20am practice. Next, I have school from 11am-4pm and off ice workout from 4:15-5:30. I go home, have dinner, do homework,  and go to sleep by 9:45pm.

What was your favorite memory during your time at Pens Elite?

My favorite memory was playing in the Toronto Titans tournament during my 15U season.  We played the best teams from the USA and Canada.  I had a blast with the guys on my team and loved the fast pace of the game.

What is your favorite pre-game meal?

My favorite pre-game meal is chicken carbonara.

What is your favorite rink to play in the OHL and why?

My favorite rink to play in is our home 67’s ice rink.  We usually have between 7,000-10,000 fans per game, and the environment is very motivating.  I also like the Oshawa Generals rink.

What is your least favorite rink to play in the OHL and why?

My least favorite rink to play at is the Sudbury Wolves rink because the bench extends so far into the D zone, and every time they score, a wolf buzzes from one end to the other side on the top of the arena.
