2008 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Head Coaches

Ray Conway

Ray has coached AAA hockey in Pittsburgh Penguins for the last eleven years through his roles with the Pittsburgh Hornets and Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organizations. Ray has experience coaching at the 2003’s, 2004’s, 2005’s and 2006’s. Most recently, Ray was the Head Coach for our 2008 Elite team and assistant coach for the 15U's.

Trevor Nelson

Trevor played youth hockey in and around Pittsburgh growing up and most recently served as an assistant coach for our 2008 Elite team. After playing hockey, Trevor began coaching the Mt. Lebanon High School varsity and freshman teams. He has also spent many years coaching hockey clinics focusing on player skills and has coaches all age groups of youth hockey. 


2007 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Head Coaches

Jeff Hannan

Jeff is a Pittsburgh native who grew up playing for the Pittsburgh Hornets before moving on to play NCAA Division I hockey at Niagara University. During his senior year, Niagara won the Atlantic Hockey regular season championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament. His senior year he was awarded with the Gallagher Sportsmanship Award for his contributions to the hockey program on and off the ice. Jeff is entering his sixth season coaching the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite and last season was the 2007 Elite Head Coach. Prior to that Jeff served as the Assistant Coach in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with the Coulee Region Chill, helping develop numerous Division I college hockey players. Jeff also serves as the Skill Development Professional at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Chris Stern

Current Director of Player Advancement for the Pens Elite Chris Stern gets back into a comfortable role for him; coaching. Chris has had success at every age group of youth hockey. His accolades include Tier 1 championships, and coaching teams that participated in USA Hockey National Championships in 8 of his final 11 seasons, including one- 2nd and 3- 3rd place finishes. He has developed players that have attained all levels of success in hockey, including D1, D3, and NHL players. Chris has been active as a scout over the years having worked in both the USHL and NAHL systems.  A native of Western Pennsylvania, he has served as a coach and evaluator for USA Hockey player development camps, and as a presenter at USA Hockey coaching clinics. A life long Pittsburgh native, "Sluggo" finished his playing career at Duquesne, and is also a practicing attorney.

Dan Para

Dan started his coaching career with the Erie Youth Hockey Association in Erie, PA more than 15 years ago. Since then, some of the positions that he has held include the head men’s hockey coach at Penn State Behrend, program director and varsity head coach at Cathedral Preparatory School, a regional scout with the Southern Tier Xpress, the assistant coach at Mercyhurst University and a regional scout with the Lonestar Brahamas (NAHL). We are excited to have Dan coaching the 2007's this year as he applies a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organization.
